The Water Boatman Peacock is a very valuable early and especially late season fly. The Water Boatman Peacock relies on trapped air to rise to the surface (either to take flight or trap more air – they do not have gills.) The Water Boatman Peacock can survive and move about in colder water than most other aquatic insects there fore it is one of the first and last of the years food sources for trout.
The WATER BOATMAN should be fished in very slow jerky pulls to closely imitate their movement. I prefer to use a dry line or sink-tip to fish the WATER BOATMAN. Even a sinking line can be used although I find it much more work and not as rewarding. Fish in shallower water.
