The Dragonfly nymph is especially effective from ice-off until well into July and also as late season nymph as the fish stock up for winter. They are they most nutritious food available to trout. It is no wonder trout go after them. Dragonflies live mainly in lakes and usually travel at night. This pattern is an attempt to imitate a dragon fly nymph. The marabou tail can stimulate the air push by the Dragon that propells it along the bottom. In areas with no ice issues the Dragon Fly nymph is a great year round pattern .
You can fish this pattern with a variety of lines depending on the depth of the water. Do not hesitate to fish in water as shallow as 2 feet. Shorts 2-3 inch tugs on your line will stimulate the movement. Watch for cruising trout and hang on!
